A Cabezon Fish in the Kelp Holdfasts of Carmel Bay
Oil on Canvas - 32" wide x 28" high
I think this Cabezon fish gets a bad rap. Here he is guarding his eggs that he's fertilized (the pinkish mass in the crevass). The female is long gone. His name in Spanish means big head and his latin name points out his venomous spines, but I still admire him. He's a sitting duck for spearfishermen becaue of his loyalty to his offspring. I find him fascinating.
